What is shot blasting?

18 / Apr . 2023

Shot blasting, also known as shot blasting, sandblasting, polishing, rust removal, etc., is a common surface treatment technique that uses high-speed sprayed metal or non-metallic particles to impact the surface of an object to achieve rust removal, dirt removal, increase surface roughness, and improve surface quality. It is a mechanical processing method.

Shot blasting treatment is mainly applied to the surface treatment and cleaning of metal and non-metallic materials, such as automobiles, railway vehicles, mechanical equipment, bridges, buildings, pipelines, castings, and other fields. It can not only effectively remove impurities such as rust, oxide layer, paint, cement, dust, etc., but also increase the surface roughness of materials, improve surface quality, enhance coating adhesion, and extend the service life of materials.

Shot blasting is mainly divided into two types: compressed air shot blasting and mechanical shot blasting. Compressed air shot peening is the use of compressed air to generate a high-speed jet stream, which sprays particles onto the surface of an object, completing tasks such as cleaning, removing surface dirt, oxide layers, and coatings; Mechanical shot peening is the process of projecting particles onto the surface of an object through a mechanically driven shot peening wheel, completing surface cleaning, increasing surface roughness, and improving coating adhesion.
