Client Background

This client is a large heavy machinery manufacturing enterprise in Pakistan, mainly engaged in the production of engineering machinery parts, mining equipment components, and large castings and forgings. Their products are widely used in infrastructure construction, mining, and energy sectors. With the continuous expansion of their business, the client has placed higher demands on the surface cleaning efficiency and automation level of large workpieces.

What Workpieces are Suitable for Cleaning with a Large Steel Track Shot Blasting Machine?

Before introducing a specific case, let's briefly explain the applicable workpiece range of the large steel track shot blasting machine to help understand why the client chose this model.

The large steel track shot blasting machine uses high-strength steel tracks to carry the workpiece, which continuously tumbles within the cleaning chamber and receives shot from multiple shot blasters at different angles. Steel tracks offer superior wear resistance and load-bearing capacity compared to rubber tracks, making them particularly suitable for surface treatment of the following types of workpieces:

**Large Castings**

Including heavy machinery castings, mining machinery castings, and construction machinery castings. Individual pieces can weigh hundreds of kilograms or even more, and steel tracks can withstand heavy impacts.

**Large Forgings**

Including gear blanks, shaft blanks, flanges, and large connecting rods. The oxide scale on the surface of forgings needs to be thoroughly removed through shot blasting.

**Heavy Structural Components**

Including excavator arms, loader buckets, chassis, and track frames. These workpieces are large and heavy, requiring large shot blasting equipment.

**Heat-Treated Workpieces**

Including quenched and tempered parts. Shot blasting removes the oxide scale generated during heat treatment.

**Welded Structural Components**

Including large welded frames, chassis, and bases. Shot blasting removes weld slag and oxide scale, preparing the workpiece for painting.

Project Challenges

The client's existing equipment was a small rubber-track shot blasting machine, which experienced the following problems in actual use:

**Insufficient Load Capacity:** The rubber tracks could not support the weight of large castings and forgings, frequently resulting in track damage and frequent maintenance.

**Low Efficiency:** Limited single-batch loading capacity, unable to meet the needs of mass production.

**Many Manual Operations:** Loading and unloading both require manual operation, resulting in high labor intensity and low efficiency.

**Unstable Cleaning Results:** Large workpieces did not tumble sufficiently in the rubber tracks, leading to uneven cleaning.

The client desired a new machine capable of efficient, automated, and continuous cleaning of large workpieces.

Solution

Based on the client's workpiece specifications and production requirements, our technical team customized a large steel-track shot blasting machine for them. The main configuration is as follows:

**High-Strength Steel Track System:** Utilizing high-manganese steel cast track plates, it boasts strong wear resistance and impact resistance, capable of withstanding continuous loading and tumbling of large, heavy workpieces, and has a long service life. The track drive system uses frequency conversion control, ensuring smooth operation.

**Automatic Loading and Unloading System** Equipped with a vibrating feeder and automatic unloading device, this system enables automatic loading and unloading of workpieces. During loading, the workpiece is evenly fed into the track cleaning chamber via the vibrating feeder; during unloading, the track rotates in the opposite direction, automatically conveying the workpiece out and connecting it to the discharge conveyor belt, forming a fully automated continuous operation.

**Multiple Shot Blasting Unit Layout** Multiple high-power, high-efficiency shot blasters are configured at different positions within the shot blasting chamber, projecting shot at the workpiece from above and sides at multiple angles, ensuring uniform impact on all surfaces of large castings and forgings.

**Large-Capacity Cleaning Chamber** The cleaning chamber size is customized according to the customer's largest workpiece, significantly increasing the single-batch loading capacity to meet the needs of mass production.

**Shot Circulation System** Equipped with a high-power screw conveyor, bucket elevator, and high-efficiency separator, this system enables automatic recovery, screening, and recycling of shot, reducing abrasive consumption.

**High-Efficiency Dust Removal System** Equipped with a high-power cartridge dust collector, the airflow is matched to the shot blasting chamber volume, ensuring that dust emission concentrations meet local environmental standards in Pakistan.

**PLC Control System** Features one-button start, automatic operation, and fault alarm functions. It can store multiple sets of process parameters and is easy to operate.

Customer Feedback

After the equipment was put into operation, the surface treatment efficiency of the customer's large castings and forgings significantly improved. The automatic loading and unloading system automates the entire process from loading to cleaning to unloading, reducing the number of operators from multiple to just one person for monitoring the entire process. The load-bearing capacity of the steel tracks fully meets the cleaning requirements of large workpieces, eliminating the problem of frequent track damage.

The client's production manager stated, "After equipping this large steel track shot blasting machine with an automatic loading and unloading system, our cleaning process has been fully automated. Tasks that previously required multiple people can now be monitored by a single person. The durability of the steel tracks has also far exceeded our expectations, fully meeting the cleaning needs of large workpieces."

Project Summary

This delivered large steel track shot blasting machine, through its high-strength steel track system, automatic loading and unloading system, multi-blaster layout, and PLC automatic control, helped the client achieve a full-process automation upgrade for the cleaning of large castings and forgings, significantly increasing production capacity, reducing labor costs, and improving the working environment.

This case further validates the core value of large steel track shot blasting machines in the cleaning of heavy castings and forgings, engineering machinery parts, and other large workpieces.
